Retroid’s Purple GameCube Clone Finally Ditches the Slider Joysticks

Retroid’s Pocket Flip 2 exists now. Well, will exist—sometime this spring, they say. The render dropped on Discord (of course) and looks like a GameCube that went through a shrink ray. Purple shell, yellow stick, the whole nostalgic package. Whether that’s charming or lawsuit bait depends on Nintendo’s mood.

They’ve scrunched the buttons closer together. The original’s layout felt… experimental. And those joystick sliders everyone hated? Gone. Replaced with recessed sticks that—hopefully—don’t feel like stirring gravel. Speakers moved too, after countless complaints about hand-muffling. Shocking they actually listened.

The render’s got half of another mystery handheld peeking out. Retroid’s not saying anything. Probably smart. Why waste marketing dollars when rumors work for free?

Specs? Ha. Nothing. Complete silence. “Will handle retro emulation”—wow, revolutionary. Maybe it’ll run something newer than Dreamcast, maybe not. The lack of details doesn’t scream confidence.

If you already own a Steam Deck or ROG Ally, keep walking. This isn’t competing with that league. But if you’re priced out and just want something that plays old games without destroying your bank account? The Flip 2 might… suffice. Provided “spring” doesn’t become “eventually.”
